What is Transmedia?
AT LEAST 3 MEDIA PLATFORMS + NEW CONTENT + AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT
Transmedia is the art of sharing a story over at least three media platforms with new content, not repurposed, and with the audience actively taking part.
TRANSMEDIA IS A PRODUCTION & STORYTELLING STRATEGY
Transmedia is not a new form of media. Rather, a transmedia producer or storyteller uses transmedia tactics to best develop a story to reach and retain a target audience. A transmedia approach lies in the pre-production phase where a person plans, writes, and directs where the narrative will flow.
The driving platform of the story world generates the biggest part of the story with additional narrative being added through other media platforms. In addition, gaps in the story dovetail into various platforms.
A story world is the marketing, education or entertainment story that is being told across various media platforms. It is called a ‘story world’ because the story flows over various platforms such as video, print, mobile app, movie, video game, social media, live events, etc.
