As a 20 year veteran of the entertainment industry and a three-time Emmy® Award winner, it excites me to be a part of the next wave of media production — that of transmedia. Through the University of Houston’s Transmedia Initiative, youth and adults can be trained in transmedia production and within the accelerator program, a selected group will also be given the opportunity to craft educational and family-centered entertainment so that they can stay in this region and build out their creative studios. It is time to see the media community thrive in Houston. That time is now.
Jeff Gomez, CEO of Starlight Runner Entertainment, shares his personal story of how he became a pioneer of transmedia storytelling and an expert at incubating new entertainment franchises, strategic planning and production for cross-platform implementation.
Very moving words and a stirring call to action to content creators. I think I may just have an new hero in Mr. Gomez. Luanne Brown

Campfire Media founders made The Blair Witch Project. But if you think it was just a movie, you’d be mistaken. It was a tale that evolved in the press and online and through genre fans and dozens of other little experiences to create an experience much larger than any single film could contain. The movie was just the centerpiece in a complex series of encounters. Legends were seeded. Stories evolved. Advocacy grew. And the film became a sensation before it ever reached a single theater.
This transmedia approach to telling stories across multiple channels and media was a new way to create and manage a brand launch. Since this lofty beginning, we’ve applied these principles to generate unprecedented buzz and engagement for dozens of companies.
